I have a P4 3.06HT and the hyperthreading (or maybe just plain multi-processor systems?) seems to cause the problem. I've disabled hyperthreading and both the 1.16 and 1.14 drivers seem stable (I restored my box back to the 1.14 drivers). For kicks, I also tried assigning CPU affinity to the eShell.exe to see if

If you do not plan to use USB keyboards and mice, set “USB Legacy Support” to Disabled 3. If you plan to use the power management state called “Suspend To RAM” ..... You’d be amazed how many problems with your computer it automatically fixes. It is a great stability tool. There are also lots of other good registry

I've thought the cause is the installed SP2, but after I've disabled Hyper-Threading in the BIOS, he scans like my old WinXPpro installation with I'm running SP1. Did you get a BSOD or just a failure of the hotsync? Did you notice any degredation in other performance after turning off hyperthreading? TIA Louise.

Even when SQL is running during the WSUS update it hardly hits 50% (and hyperthreading has been enabled). I've seen dodgy PSU's take down boxes before so I I'd actually LOVE a BSOD as it least it would give me a clue that it's either hardware or driver related! Oh yes, one final thing, the event logs are clean

Ignore 'Hyper threading' or 'HT' too - it offers very small performance advantages IN SOME CASES, but for others can actually make things run slower (several software manufacturers have disabled HT support in their products for this reason) - another Intel blunder.
